New Thoughts

How many Eagles fans thought the Giants were in big trouble at the end of last year... when Tiki Barber left  and half the team turned on the head coach I thought they were dead. I honestly picked them to finish last in the NFC East...

Now the Giants are in the Super Bowl.... The lesson that I learned from this is that the Eagles still have life, they still have a chance to get back to the big game with the team they have.

I think with a few smart moves the Eagles can be where the Giants are this time next year.

Have you ever noticed that the cities of Philadelphia and Boston seem to have an inferiority complex. I always get that feeling when I read the Philly newspaper. Recently I have been reading the Boston Globe (mostly for the sports) and I notice that they are the same way. Maybe it's because both cities are close to New York and the feel some inadequacy. It's just strange....

Kevin Curtis was the first WR to gain 1000 yards since Terrell Owens. How come it doesn't seem like he had that good of a season?

I agree that the Giants looked like dead meat at the end of last season.  A lot of things had to go their way for this run to happen.  First of all, they had a pretty good draft based on the production that they got from the young players.  Brandon Jacobs did a nice job.  I think some people forget how good of a job Derrick Ward did before he went down.  Kevin Boss came out of left field and made nice contributions at TE.  For the Eagles to make a run next season, they need contributions from players that we least expect it from.  You know what you are going to get from Westbrook, maybe Curtis, but we need a TE, a FB, and another WR to step up and give Donovan options.  If the defense can make more strides next year, we could be back in the playoffs.  Gotta win those division games!!!!

New Thoughts

I certainly didn't think the Giants were going to the Super Bowl, either, that's for sure.  I had them finishing behind the Eagles and Cowboys, but ahead of the Redskins.  One thing I disagree with you about, strongly, is the absence of Tiki Barber.  I've posted for a couple of years (here and on different boards) my thoughts about him.  I think he was holding the Giants back.  Once he became a "leader" in the locker room, ( i.e. quit leading the league in fumbles) there has been nothing but devisiveness on that team.  I think they pushed his butt out the door.  Yeah, maybe they got a couple more bounces this year than in the past, but this year's group is playing like a "TEAM" for the first time in a long time.  I never heard of Boss, and didn't give Jacobs the credit he deserves.  I've felt that Amani Toomer (and NOT Plaxico Burress) is their most important WR for a while, too.  That said, I knew Coughlin was a real good coach (Jacksonville : inception to playoffs in how many years?).

Even at the beginning of this year, Barber was still trying to tear apart his old team.  I'd be willing to bet that NBC gave him a choice of either putting a muzzle on, or getting a new job.  I could do without him on TV altogether.
